Careers Linked Curriculum

We are extremely proud of our curriculum and the links to the wider world of work.  We have carefully designed lessons, topics and whole school events to support our pupils to develop lifelong skills.   We are constantly preparing our pupils for jobs that may not yet exist and therefore the skills we teach are vital for them to not only be a valued member of their community but to be able to compete in a global employment market.

Key lifelong skills identified in research are:

Teamwork and empathy

Communication skills

Problem-solving and decision making skills

Professionalism and respct for the rules

Adaptability

Self-management

Critical thinking

Initiative and self-driven work

Computer proficiency

Leadership skills

These are skills we embed across all we do, not just for future employment but for the future of our community and society.

In designing our curriculum we offer a broad and balanced approach to both academic ability and life long skills.  The current education secretary, Lucy Powell, identified these skills (24.9.26)  as vital to reduce the number of young people not in education, training or employment.  Our approach to education ensures, no pupil is left behind and that they have the skills needed for their next steps and place in the world.

Alongside this,  all pupils have the opportunity to apply for roles in schools.  To do this they first complete an application form and then are invited to attend an interview.  This reflects the world of work!

Our current Pupil roles are:

Sports Squad

Eco Warriors

We also hold career assemblies where professionals and past pupils come to school to tell pupils about the job they do.  Examples of these are: PCSO, RAF pilot, solicitor, social media content creator, structural engineer to name a few.
