Oracy refers to the range of skills and techniques used to express thoughts verbally, including listening, understanding, and responding effectively. It is not tied to accent, dialect, or language, but focuses on empowering individuals to communicate their authentic voice. Strong oracy skills are linked to academic success, social engagement, and lifelong communication abilities, enabling children to express opinions, collaborate, debate, and critically engage with information and ideas (National Literacy Trust)
It is not a stand alone lesson, but a golden thread embedded in everything we do. In developing oracy we aim to:
- Build confidence and clarity in verbal expression.
- Enhances collaboration and critical thinking.
- Supports academic achievement and literacy development.
- Promote empathy and active listening, improving social interactions.
- Prepares students for real-world communication across diverse contexts.
