SEND

At Marshlands Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child is valued, included and supported to achieve their full potential regardless of need or disability.

We recognise that some pupils may experience barriers to learning and belonging, and we work closely with children, families and external professionals to identify these needs early and remove barriers wherever possible. Through high-quality teaching, carefully planned support and a strong focus on wellbeing, we aim to ensure that all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, can access a broad and ambitious curriculum, develop independence and achieve their individual potential within our school community.

SEND Information Report

The SEND information report is written for parents. It is designed to explain how we follow our SEND policy. It details the processes we have in place around Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Our SEND coordinator is Mrs Wright. She can be contacted on the school number (01405 765094) or via email, wrightk@marshlands.eriding.net and is happy to support parents with any SEND concerns.

	East Riding Local Offer
	Services and support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), aged 25 or under.

Areas of SEND

The four broad areas of SEND are the main ways schools identify and understand the different kinds of support a child may need to help them learn, feel included and make progress in school.

Cognition & Learning

Some children may need support with:

reading
writing
spelling
memory
processing information
understanding new concepts

This includes children who learn at a different pace from their peers.

Communictaion & Interaction

Some children may find it difficult to:

understand language
express themselves clearly
interact socially with others
understand social rules or non-verbal communication

This can include children with speech and language needs or social communication differences.

Social, Emotional and Mental Health

Some children may experience difficulties with:

managing emotions
anxiety
confidence
relationships
attention
behaviour

These needs can affect how a child feels and how they engage with learning.

Sensory and/or Physical

Some children may have:

hearing difficulties
visual difficulties
physical disabilities
sensory processing differences
medical needs affecting access to learning

These children may need specialist equipment or adjustments to the environment.

Important to remember

Many children may have needs that overlap more than one area, and every child’s strengths and needs are unique. Our role is to understand each child as an individual and provide the support they need to succeed.

	East Yorkshire Parent Carer Forum (EYPCF)
	This is a local group for parents and carers of children and young people who have any special educational needs or disabilities (SEND). They get involved in shaping services that may impact on their children.
	Winston's Wish
	Winston’s Wish is a charity that offers free, accessible online grief support to children and young people (aged 25 or under) across the UK who are bereaved or facing the death of someone important.
	The Speech and Language Therapy Service (SaLT)
	The Speech and Language Therapy Service (SaLT) supports children and young people aged 0-18, with speech, language, communication, feeding and swallowing difficulties.
	East Riding SENDIASS
	This service offers confidential advice and support for children, young people, and families with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in East Riding.
	Home Start - Goole
	Home Start is a local community network of trained volunteers and expert support. We support families with children under eight with practical and confidential support. We continue to offer home-visiting volunteer support for families facing a range of challenges including isolation, financial worries, parenting difficulties, behavioural concerns and parental wellbeing. We also run informal parent support groups in Goole and Howden, alongside funded trips, events and activities for families.

	The East Riding 0-19, Integrated Specialist Public Health Nursing Service comprises of health visitors, school nurses, health and development practitioners and administrators, working together to deliver the healthy child programme.
	Mental Health Support Team
	My MHST - are here to help you feel your best, in school and in life. The Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) work in schools and colleges across Hull and East Riding to support young people with maintaining positive mental health and emotional wellbeing. 	CAMHS Crisis Team

	Children's Neurodiversity Front Door Team
	The Front Door Team is where referrals for Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity (ADHD) are sent and reviewed. After your child’s referral has been reviewed you will receive information about the best way for you and your child to access support. This may be an Autism and/or ADHD assessment but can also be help from other services.
	Children’s Emotional & Mental Health Services
	The Children's Emotional & Mental Health Services support children, young people, their families, and other people who are important to young people. We work with young people and families who are based within the Hull and East Yorkshire region. We want to help young people to thrive and receive the right help when they experience mental distress.
